The ‘Midas’ Myth

Have you ever heard of the story of the man whose touch turned everything into solid gold? Well, this is my artistic take on the age-old myth of ‘The Midas Touch’. It’s an ancient Greek story embedded deep in the country’s mythology.

Initially, the project was pitched as ‘Myths and Legends’, in which a story had to be chosen and interpreted to fit a design brief. The final outcome was to take all original imagery and turn it into an event with multiple different applications and outcomes.

I chose the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) as the backdrop to my mythological event.

Design mockups were made in order to appropriately visualise the magazine in book form. The layout of the front cover was intended to emulate the NGV's own magazine.

Posters were designed as promotional material for the intended 'MIDAS' exhibition.

Apparel was designed to elevate the exhibition and show what would be available in the NGV gift shop and store after guests leave the exhibition space.

Billboard, flag and poster mockups were created to display promotional material within the confines of Melbourne, especially in the NGV site and the CBD.
